Abstract

The book deals with how these digital archive materials were handled in wars. Moreover, it mostly tries to reveal the productions of artists about how archival works and art can come together to create new forms. They try to express the political demands of the archives, as well as to create new forms of expression archival and to make more than one proposal to embody the experience between war and real life. In their own words: “This book explores the changing role of archives in contemporary war, the cultural and political impact of digitization upon the war-archive nexus, and the ways in which the artistic field has responded to these changes. (W)archives proposes that in order to understand the rationale of contemporary wars, we need to investigate the increasingly structuring role played by digitization and digital archives within warfare. At the same time, to grasp the changing role of archives in light of digitization, we need to explore the ways in which archives are deployed to an evergreater extent as technologies of warfare, venues for dissent, and demands for accountability.”

Abstract

Savaşa yönelik arşivlerin en başta savaş materyali olarak düşünülmesinin şoke edici tarafını ve arşivci gözünden değil de daha çok sanatçılar ve akademisyenler tarafından çağdaş sanattaki karşılığını fark edebileceğiniz bir çalışma (W)Archives. Ayrıca bir ‘savaşı arşivleme’nin, savaş sırasındaki psikolojisini yakından anlamak, yalnızca askerî ve politik yönden değil, bu arşivlere insanî ve sanatsal olarak da bakabilmeyi sağlıyor. Lansman izlendiğinde bazı temel sorular fark ediliyor: Dijital teknoloji ve bilgi teknolojileri günümüz savaş arşivlerini nasıl dönüştürüyor? Sanatçılar bu değişimlere nasıl tepki veriyor? Böylesi hassas arşivlerde sanatın izleri insanî boyutlarda ne ifade ediyor? Belgeleme gerçekten yeniden yapılandırma mı yoksa salt tanıklık olarak mı düşünülmeli?
