He was born in 1960 in Nevşehir and he completed his primary and secondary education there. He then 

graduated from the Department of Librarianship at the Faculty of Letters (DTCF) in 1982.

Prior to beginning his formal academic career, he worked as a librarian at the National

Library of Turkey between 1978 and 1985. He became a member of the board of the Turkish

Librarians’ Association (TKD) in 1984 and served as its President from 1996 to 2002.

He served as a consultant or project manager for initiatives involving the computer-based

cataloging of collections at the National Library, the library of the Atatürk Research Center and the Atatürk

Cultural Center. He also contributed as a subject matter expert to a project focused on the

digitization (computer-based cataloging) of manuscripts held by the Faculty of Letters.

His areas of expertise include cataloging and classification, information organization, electronic

publishing, and open access. Between 2001 and 2020, he held positions as the Head of the

Library and Documentation Department, and Coordinator of Information Services at Ankara

University.

Beginning in 1985, he taught courses on the organization of information, classification, and

serials within the Department of Librarianship at the Faculty of Letters (DTCF), and has

published various books and articles on these subjects. He retired at his own request in 2022.
