Selma Tural Hesapçıoğlu graduated from Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine in 2002, receiving an honorary certificate. She started her compulsory service in Kulp District of Diyarbakır. She served as Infectious Diseases Branch Manager at Diyarbakır Provincial Health Directorate and during this period, she served as a trainer, manager and participant in many vaccination campaigns within the scope of the Polio Eradication Program and Measles Eradication Program. She left her one-year Ophthalmology specialization at Gaziantep University and started her Child Adolescent Mental Health and Diseases specialization at Karadeniz Technical University Faculty of Medicine in 2005, and completed it in 2010. She completed her second compulsory service as the first Child and Adolescent Mental Psychiatry specialist physician in the province of Muş. She started her teaching career as an Assistant Professor at Karadeniz Technical University Faculty of Medicine at the beginning of 2013. She also graduated from the Health Institutions Management Associate Degree Program in 2013. She continued her teaching career at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University (AYBU) since 2015. She received the title of Associate Professor in 2018 and Professor in 2024. She received the title of Biostatistics Master of Science degree in 2023. She served as a Member of the Board of Directors of AYBÜ Faculty of Medicine and a Member of the Ethics Committee of Yenimahalle Training and Research Hospital (YEAH). Currently, she continues to serve as a Member of the Disabled Student Study Unit of the Council of Higher Education, a Member of the Curriculum Development System of the Medical Specialization Board of the Ministry of Health, YEAH Institution Education Officer, Responsible Physician of Ankara Child Monitoring Center, and Education Officer of YEAH Child Adolescent Mental Health and Diseases Clinic. She has more than 70 national and international articles, book chapter authorships and translations in her field.
After completing his primary and secondary education in his hometown Giresun, he graduated from Kayseri Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine in 2011. Following an 18-month compulsory service at the emergency department of Giresun-Bulancak State Hospital, he completed his medical specialization training in 2017 at Eskişehir Osmangazi University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Public Health. After fulfilling his compulsory service as a specialist physician in Şırnak, he briefly worked at the Zonguldak Ereğli District Health Directorate. Since 2019, he has been serving as a faculty member in the Department of Public Health at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University Faculty of Medicine.
Nimetcan Mehmet Orhun completed his PhD in Community Health through a collaborative program involving the Community Health Department at the Faculty of Medicine of National University Malaysia (UKM) and the United Nations University, International Institute for Global Health (UNU-IIGH). His professional journey includes significant roles such as a research assistant at UNU-IIGH from September 2009 to April 2013, and a post-doctoral position there from 2013 to 2015. Later, he served as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Health Management, Faculty of Health Sciences of Necmettin Erbakan University from July 2015 to April 2017. Subsequently, he joined Ankara Yildirim Beyazit University as an Assistant Professor in the Public Health Department, Faculty of Medicine, from April 2017 to November 2022. In November 2022, Dr. Orhun was promoted to the position of Associate Professor of Public Health by the Turkish Higher Education Council and has continued his tenure at Ankara Yildirim Beyazit University since then. Throughout his career, he has authored over 60 scientific papers in peer-reviewed international journals, contributed to several books and book chapters, and actively participated in numerous international and national projects.
Dr. Orhun's primary research interests encompass public health, health policy, health economics, health equity, and primary healthcare services.
I am, at present a Professor at the Ankara Yildirim Beyazit University, Faculty of Medicine. I have a strong commitment to biomedical science research and education, an established record of scholarly research activity, and experience with the administration of the graduate program and a research center at both the department and the university levels.
My dedication to biomedical research and education has increased with my faculty experience. After my pharmacy training at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Ankara University in Ankara, Turkey, I pursued my Ph.D. study in pharmacology at Ankara University in Turkey and subsequently completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Division of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Wyoming in the USA. I joined the faculty of the University of Wyoming, School of Pharmacy, Altinbas University and Kirikkale University. As a faculty member, I have been involved in research and education at the instructional as well as administrative levels. I have trained graduate and undergraduate students in our laboratories. My work has received international recognition evidenced by many presentations at international conferences. I am still actively engaged in bench research work. I am a firm believer that leaders should be role models, and I bring the highest possible level of professionalism and enthusiasm to my work.
My main area of expertise is cardiovascular pathophysiology and neurodegeneration in diabetes, obesity/insulin resistance, and aging. I employ some cutting-edge techniques including gene therapy, RNA interference, molecular biology, and animal behavioral tests.
The quality, integrity and reputation of a university are directly linked to the publication and presentation of research in appropriate journals and academic conferences. Strong leadership and an understanding of this side of academia will be essential to improving and expanding research programs at the Department of Medical Pharmacology. I have a solid record of publishing research findings in peer reviewed journals, presenting them at national and international conferences as well as participating in journal peer review process. I serve as an ad hoc peer reviewer for over 10 scientific journals. Through these experiences I have gained considerable familiarity with the publishing process and have developed numerous professional connections with other academicians, grant administrators and journal editorial offices.
