Aim & Scope

Aim and Scope

The Turkish Psychological Counseling and Guidance Journal (TPCGJ) is an international, peer-reviewed journal published by the Turkish Psychological Counselling and Guidance Association.

The journal aims to advance knowledge, research, and evidence-based practice in psychological counseling and guidance (PCG). It provides a scholarly platform for studies that contribute to the psychological, educational, career, and social development and well-being of individuals across the lifespan, from childhood to adulthood, both within and beyond school settings.

TPCGJ publishes original empirical, theoretical, methodological, and evidence-synthesis studies that make a clear contribution to psychological counseling and guidance. The journal particularly welcomes research that strengthens the relationship between theory and practice, addresses contemporary needs and challenges in counseling and guidance, improves the quality and accessibility of counseling services, and contributes to counselor education, supervision, professional development, and ethical practice.

The scope of the journal includes, but is not limited to:

•       school counseling and guidance across preschool, primary, secondary, and higher education settings;

•       personal, social, educational, and career counseling and guidance;

•       psychological well-being, adjustment, development, resilience, and interpersonal processes relevant to counseling;

•       career development, vocational guidance, career decision-making, and life transitions;

•       family counseling and guidance;

•       counselor education, supervision, professional competencies, and professional development;

•       ethical issues, professional identity, practice standards, and responsibilities in counseling;

•       counseling and guidance needs and services across the lifespan;

•       counseling practices in schools, universities, community settings, workplaces, and other relevant service contexts, provided such practices are grounded in PCG principles and a recognized professional guidance framework;

•       development, implementation, and evaluation of counseling interventions, programs, models, and service-delivery approaches;

•       online counseling, tele-counseling and tele-guidance, digital and hybrid interventions, and technology-supported counseling services, provided the intervention is grounded in PCG principles and a recognized professional guidance framework;

•       assessment, measurement, and methodological developments relevant to psychological counseling and guidance;

•       individual, cultural, and contextual differences relevant to counseling processes and outcomes;

•       multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary research with a clear contribution to psychological counseling and guidance; and

•       systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and other rigorous evidence-synthesis studies that advance theory, research, policy, or practice in the field.

The journal welcomes research from Türkiye and international contexts and encourages studies that provide theoretically grounded, methodologically rigorous, and practically meaningful contributions to the development of psychological counseling and guidance.

Out of Scope

Manuscripts are considered outside the scope of TPCGJ when psychological counseling and guidance is not a central focus of the study or when the contribution to the field is indirect or incidental.

Studies generally considered outside the journal's scope include:

•       research focused primarily on psychiatry, psychiatric diagnosis, or clinical treatment without clear implications for psychological counseling and guidance;

•       studies situated primarily within sociology, social work, nursing, medicine, law enforcement, or other disciplines without a substantive connection to counseling and guidance;

•       studies examining general psychological, educational, or behavioral variables without clearly demonstrating their relevance to counseling theory, practice, education, supervision, or service delivery;

•       studies in which a particular population is used merely as a convenient sample without a counseling- or guidance-related research question; and

•       studies that employ psychological constructs but do not make a meaningful theoretical, methodological, or practical contribution to psychological counseling and guidance.

All submissions are expected to clearly articulate their contribution to the theory, research, education, supervision, policy, or practice of psychological counseling and guidance.
