Relational and Personal Predictors of Marital Satisfaction
Abstract
Marital satisfaction is important for sustaining healthy and successful mariage. The purpose of the current study was to examine prediction capasities of nine variables on marital satisfaction : Gender, educational level, number of children, prediction capacity of peer support, years of marriage, age difference between spouses, family income level, sexual life satisfaction and sharing of domestic responsibilities. In order to determine the levels of marital satisfaction of individuals, Marital Life Scale, and to determine level of perceived spousal support, Peer Support Scale and to obtain information on the predictor variables, Personel Information Form were administred in order to gather the data in this study. The sample of the study included totally 811 adults (448 female, 363 male). The data were analyzed by Stepwise Regression technique. Major findings of this study indicated that peer support, sexual life satisfaction and education level significantly predicted marital satisfaction of married individuals. Conversely, gender, the number of children, the duration of marriage, ages difference between spouse, the income level of the family, sharing household duties did not predict marital satisfaction significantly. In conclusion, according to findings perceived spouse support, sexual life satisfaction and education level were predictor variables for the marital satisfaction.
