Developing the Interpersonal Problem Solving Inventory (IPSI): the Validity and Reliability Process

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop a scale that assess the interpersonal problem solving skills of individuals. The data for this study are collected by using a initial form of a 90-itemed Interpersonal Problem Solving Inventory from the sample of 526 graduate and undergraduate university students (aged between 18 to 30), who have been attending different education programs at various departments at Çukurova University. The results of explanatory factor analysis show that the scale consists of five interpersonal problem solving dimensions. These five dimensions are called; 1.Approaching problems in a negative way, 2.Constructive problem solving, 3.Lack of self-confidence, 4.Unwilling to take responsibility, and 5. Insistent-persevering approach sub-scales. For the criterion validity it has been found that the scale has a relationship with the PSI and the STAI-T. The internal consistency values of Cronbach alfa for the sub-scales are found between .67 and .91; the test-retest reliability is found between .69 and .89. The scale consist of 50 items constructed in a form of 5-point scale. The results of the study indicated that the scale can be used to measure problem solving skills of university students aged between 18 to 30 years old.

Kişilerarası Problem Çözme Envanteri’nin (KPÇE) Geliştirilmesi: Geçerlik ve Güvenirlik Çalışması

Abstract

Çalısmada, bireylerin kisilerarası problem çözme becerilerini ölçmek için bir ölçme aracı gelistirmek amaçlanmıstır. Bu amaçla, 18-30 yasları arasında ve farklı programlarda ögrenim gören 526 lisans ve yüksek lisans ögrencisine 90 maddelik Kisilerarası Problem Çözme Envanteri- Deneme Formu uygulanarak veriler toplanmıstır. Yapılan Açıklayıcı Faktör Analizi çalısmasında aracın kisilerarası problem çözmeyle ilgili bes ayrı boyuttan olustugu görülmüstür. Bunlar; Probleme Olumsuz Yaklasma, Yapıcı Problem Çözme, Kendine Güvensizlik, Sorumluluk Almama ve Israrcı-Sebatkar Yaklasım alt ölçekleri olarak adlandırılmıstır. Ölçüt bagıntılı geçerlik çalısmasında envanterin, Problem Çözme Envanteri ve Sürekli Kaygı Ölçegi ile iliskili oldugu bulunmustur. Alt ölçeklerin Cronbach alfa iç tutarlılık degerleri .67 ile .91 arasında; test-tekrar test kararlılık katsayıları ise .69 ile .89 arasında degismektedir. Araç besli derecelendirme seçenegi olan 50 maddeden olusmaktadır. Çalısmadaki bulgular, gelistirilen aracın 18-30 yasları arasındaki üniversite ögrencilerinin kisilerarası problem çözme becerilerini ölçmek için kullanılabilecegini göstermistir.
