Internet Addiction and Internet Parental Style of Primary School Students

Abstract

The aim of the study is to determine the internet parenting styles of families of primary school students and to determine if students’ parents internet style and internet addictions differ or not according to various variables. The study was performed with 407 students in total who are studying in the second term of 2010-2011 education year in 3 different elementary schools second stage in city center of Samsun. Internet parenting styles scale was adapted into Turkish under the aim of the study. At the end of the research, 214 families were found as laissez-faire, 96 as permissive, 83 families as authoritative and 14 as authoritarian parenting style. It was found that laissez-faire internet parenting style has an important role in internet addiction. In the research, it was found that there was a significant difference between internet parenting style gender, grade and internet usage skill.
