Comparison of Teachers and Counselors' Ideas About Co 1laboration in Dealing with Students' Behaviour Problems in Primary Schools

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to compare teachers' and school counsellors' ideas about collaboration in dealing with students' behaviour problems. The study was conducted with 17 teachers and six school counsellors by using interview as a qualitative research method. Results show ed that teachers ask help from school counsellors to manage behaviour problems. They refer the child to counsellor and apply counsellor's suggestions for dealing with misbehaviour. School counsellors reported that they do consu1tation with teachers to help them to cope with problem behaviour, by doing individual counselling with the child, interviewing with parents, interviewing with parents and the child together, making suggestions for teachers, organising workshop for teachers and doing group counselling. Great majority ofteachers agreed that they work collaboratively with school counsellors, apply their suggestions and they get positive results. Generally teachers and counsellors seemed to satisfy with teacher-counsellor collaboration. School counsellor also emphasised that if teachers are volunteered to work co-operatively they quickly get positive outcomes in solving problems.

İlköğretim Öğrencilerinin Davranış Problemleriyle Başetme Konusunda Öğretmen-Psikolojik Danışman İşbirliğine İlişkin Görüşlerin Karşılaştırılması

Abstract

Bu arastinnada ilkögretirnde görev yapan okul psikolojik danismanlari ile ögretmenlerin siniftaki ögrenci davranis problemleriyle bas etmede ögretmen-danisman isbirligine iliskin görüsleri karsilastirilmistir. Arastinna biri özel, dördü devlet okulu olmak üzere toplam bes okulda görevli 17 ögretmen ile bu okullarda görevli 6 psikolojik danismanla nitel arastinna yöntemlerinden görüsme yöntemi kullanilarak gerçeklestirilmistir. Ögretmenler siniflarinda karsilastiklari bazi problemlerin çözümünde danismandan yardim aldiklarini, bunu da bazen ögrenciyi danismana göndenne, bazen de danismandan ne yapacaklari konusunda bilgi alma ve önerilerini uygulama seklinde yaptiklarini vurgulamislardir. Danismanlar ögrenciyle bireysel görüsme yaninda konsültasyon hizmeti çerçevesinde problem davranislarla basa çikmada ögretmenle görüsme, anne babayla görüsme, aile ve ögrenciyle birlikte görüsme, ögretmene önerilerde bulunma, aile ve ögretmenlere yönelik seminer çalismalari düzenleme, grup rehberligi gibi çalismalar yaptiklarini belirtmislerdir. Arastinnadaki ögretmenlerin büyük çogunlugu danismanla isbirligi kurdugunu, psikolojik danismanin verdigi önerileri uygulayarak olumlu sonuçlar aldiklarini belirtmislerdir. Bu konudaki ögretmen-danisman isbirligini ögretmen ve danismanlar genelolarak yeterli
bulmaktadirlar. Psikolojik danismanlar da isbirligine gönüllü olan ögretmenlerle yaptiklari çalismalardan kisa sürede olumlu sonuçlar aldiklarini dile getinnislerdir.
