In this study it was aimed to develop a scale to measure university students’ feeling of inferiority. The study was carried out with 1016 students who attending Anadolu University in 20102011 academic year. The exploratory factor analysis was conducted in order to determine the items to remain in the scale and the extent of subscales. As a result of the analysis, a scale with three factors and20 items has been occurred. The scale was named as “Inferiority Feeling Scale (IFS)” and the subscales were named as “Discouragement”, “Negation of Self Value” and “Useless Superiority Effort”. In the analysis it was seen that all items explain 43.63 % of the total variance. It was determined that the IFS to be correlated with the Brief Symptom Inventory (.76), Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory (-.74) and Social Comparison Scale (-.66). In reliability studies it was found that The Cronbach’s alpha coeffi cient of internal consistency was .86 and, test-retest reliability was .88. Findings show that IFS is valid and reliable in measuring university students’ feeling of inferiority
Öz: Bu çalışmada üniversite öğrencilerinin yetersizlik duygusunu ölçmeye dönük bir ölçek geliştirmek amaçlanmıştır. Araştırma, 2010-2011 eğitim-öğretim yılında Anadolu Üniversitesi’nde örgün eğitim alan 1016 öğrenci ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Ölçekte kalacak madde sayısını ve ölçeğin alt boyutlarını belirlemek amacıyla yapılan faktör analizi sonucunda 20 maddeden oluşan üç boyutlu bir yapı ortaya çıkmıştır. Ölçeğe “Yetersizlik Duygusu Ölçeği” (YDÖ), alt boyutlarına ise “Cesaretin Kırılması”, “Kendi Değerini Yadsıma” ve “Yararsız Üstünlük Çabası” adları verilmiştir. Analizlerde maddelerin toplam varyansın % 43.63’ünü açıkladığı görülmüştür. Ölçeğin Kısa Semptom Envanteri ile .76; Coopersmith Benlik Saygısı Envanteri ile -.74; Sosyal Karşılaştırma Ölçeği ile de -.66 düzeyinde ilişki gösterdiği belirlenmiştir. Ölçeğin Cronbach alfa iç tutarlık katsayısı .86, test-tekrar test güvenirliği ise .88 olarak belirlenmiştir. Bulgular, YDÖ’nün üniversite öğrencilerinin yetersizlik duygularını ölçmede geçerli ve güvenilir olduğunu göstermiştir.
