Teachers' Awareness of Children's Rights Scale: Validity and Reliability Study

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop a valid and reliable measurement tool to determine teachers' awareness levels regarding children's rights. A survey model was used in this study. During the scale development process, a preliminary form consisting of 70 items was prepared in line with the literature and relevant documents, and this form was administered to 821 teachers, followed by Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA). As a result of CFA, the scale was reduced to a five-factor structure and 24 items. The total variance contributed by these five factors was found to be 70.089%. This structure was tested with Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) by applying it to a different group of 374 teachers. The model fit values obtained from CFA (χ²/df = 2.029, RMSEA = .052, CFI = .948, TLI = .940, GFI = 904) indicate that the model fits the data perfectly and at an acceptable level. The factors were named, in order, as children's rights in the digital environment, fairness, children's rights and violations, protection rights, and participation rights. Cronbach's Alpha reliability coefficients ranged from .825 to .907 for the dimensions and .921 for the scale as a whole. The findings indicate that the developed scale can validly and reliably measure teachers' awareness levels regarding children's rights.

ÖĞRETMENLERİN ÇOCUK HAKLARI FARKINDALIĞI ÖLÇEĞİ: GEÇERLİLİK VE GÜVENİLİRLİK ÇALIŞMASI

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın amacı, öğretmenlerin çocuk haklarına yönelik farkındalık düzeylerini belirlemek amacıyla geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçme aracı geliştirmektir. Araştırmada nicel araştırma desenlerinden tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Ölçek geliştirme sürecinde, alanyazın ve ilgili belgeler doğrultusunda 70 maddelik bir ön form hazırlanmış ve bu form 821 öğretmene uygulanarak Açımlayıcı Faktör Analizi (AFA) gerçekleştirilmiştir. AFA sonucunda ölçek, beş faktörlü bir yapıya indirgenmiş ve 24 maddeye düşürülmüştür. Bu beş faktörün toplam varyansa katkısı %70.089 olarak bulunmuştur. Elde edilen bu yapı, 374 kişiden oluşan farklı öğretmen grubuna uygulanarak Doğrulayıcı Faktör Analizi (DFA) ile test edilmiştir. DFA sonucunda elde edilen model uyum değerleri (χ²/sd = 2.029, RMSEA = .052, CFI = .948, TLI = .940, GFI = 904) modelin veriye mükemmel ve kabul edilebilir düzeyde uyum sağladığını göstermektedir. Faktörler sırasıyla dijital ortamda çocuk hakkı, adaletli olma, çocuk hakkı ve ihlali, korunma hakkı ve katılım hakkı olarak adlandırılmıştır. Cronbach’s Alpha güvenirlik katsayıları boyutlar için .825 ile .907 arasında, ölçeğin geneli için ise .921 olarak bulunmuştur. Bulgular, geliştirilen ölçeğin öğretmenlerin çocuk haklarına yönelik farkındalık düzeylerini geçerli ve güvenilir şekilde ölçebileceğine işaret etmektedir.
