Karate Attitude Scale Development: Validity and Reliability Study

Abstract

The aim of the study was to develop a scale with tested validity and reliability to determine the attitudes of blue belts and individuals over the age of 18 who are interested in karate. After the literature review, the answers to two questions about karate asked to the first research group were subjected to content analysis and a 37-question scale candidate item pool was created. The expert opinion form prepared with the 37 items created in the item pool was presented to the experts for their evaluation according to the Lawshe technique. After expert feedback, 12 items were removed. The preliminary application of the created scale candidate form was applied to 338 participants. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) basic assumptions were tested and 10 items were removed from the scale due to low factor loadings and overlapping. As a result of Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), a structure consisting of 3 factors and 15 items in total was obtained. The scale form consisting of 3 sub-factors and 15 items was applied to 420 participants. As a result of the examination of model fit values after Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), it was determined that the structure consisting of 3 sub-factors and 15 items was confirmed as a model. In order to test the scale criterion validity, correlation coefficients belonging to the sub-dimensions and the entire scale were calculated and a high level and positive relationship was determined between the factors. As a result of the analyzes, it was concluded that the Karate Attitude Scale is a scale whose validity and reliability have been tested in measuring attitudes.
