An Examination of the Relationship Between Decision-Making Styles and Personality Traits of Public Institution Employees

Abstract

This study was conducted to examine the relationship between the decision-making styles and personality traits of individuals working in sports organizations. In this study, which used the correlational survey model of quantitative research methods, the study group consisted of a total of 201 participants, 90 of whom were women and 111 of whom were men. The Personal Information Form was used to obtain demographic information about participants, the Melbourne Decision Making Scale was used to determine decision-making styles, and the Ten-Item Personality Scale was used to assess personality traits. During the data collection process, scales were prepared using Google Forms and distributed to participants, who volunteered to participate. The data were analyzed; normality distribution was tested using skewness and kurtosis values, and parametric analyses were preferred. In terms of decision-making, no differences were observed in the variables of gender and age, while some significant differences were observed in the variables of marital status, employment, and educational status. In terms of personality traits, no significant differences were observed in the variables of gender, marital status, and educational level, while a significant difference was observed in the variable of age in the sub-dimension of extraversion. As a result of the correlation analysis of decision-making and personality traits, a positive and significant relationship was found between decision-making styles and personality traits. Various recommendations were made as a result of the research.
