Investigation of Leisure Time Satisfaction and Quality of Life Levels of Students Studying at the Faculty of Sport Sciences
Abstract
With this study, it is aimed to examine the leisure time satisfaction and quality of life levels of the students studying in the Faculties of Sport Sciences. While the population of the research was composed of students studying in Sports Sciences Faculties, the sample group consisted of 740 students, 274 female and 466 male, studying at Selçuk University, Marmara University, Gazi University, Pamukkale University and Akdeniz University Sports Sciences Faculties. While the personal information form created by the researcher was used for socio-demographic information, the Leisure Time Satisfaction Scale (LTSS), which was developed by Beard and Ragheb (1980) and adapted into Turkish by Karlı et al (2008), for determining leisure satisfaction, was used to determine the Quality of Life. Quality of Life (WHOQOL-BREF) was used. The Quality of Life Scale was developed by the WHO (1998) to determine the quality of life of a group of individuals. The scale was adapted from the World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL-BREF) scale and translated into Turkish, and its validity and reliability study was carried out by Sevil (2015). Considering the Covid-19 Pandemic process in the collection of data, the questionnaire forms were transferred to the digital environment and made with a "google form". By testing the variance and homogeneity of the obtained data, Independent Samples t-Test for pairwise comparisons, One Way Anova for multiple comparisons, and Tukey HSD test were used to determine the source of difference. Statistical changes were determined in Leisure Time Satisfaction and its sub-dimensions depending on gender, age and doing sports (p<0.05). On the other hand, in the sub-dimensions of quality of life, no change was observed depending on the factors of gender and doing sports; A statistical change was determined depending on the age factor (p<0.05). A positive relationship was found between leisure time satisfaction and quality of life (p<0.05). Regression analysis on the effect of leisure time satisfaction on quality of life revealed that the result was statistically significant (p<0.05). In the light of the findings of our study; It can be said that students' leisure time satisfaction is affected by gender, age and doing sports, and their quality of life is affected by age, and when free time activities are given the necessary importance and place in our lives, our quality of life will be positively affected by this situation.
