Sinop İli'nde bulunan ve Balatlar Kilisesi olarak tanınan yapı topluluğunda, sürdürülen kazı çalışmalarının ilk beş yıllık sürecinde oldukça fazla sayıda ve farklı gruplara ait ortaçağ seramiği ele geçmiştir. Seramik buluntuların bir kısmı, Bizans dönemi seramiklerinin kronolojik tasnifinde, 11.yüzyıl ile 13.yüzyıl arasına yerleştirilen gruplara dahil edilmektedir. Buluntularda, Beyaz Hamurlu seramik gruplarının yanı sıra, Kırmızı Hamurlu gruplardan Ege Tipi Kazıma ve Slip Boyalı seramikler, İnce Sgrafitto ve Geniş Oyma seramik parçaları da yer almaktadır. Bunların dışında Zeuksipus Ailesine dahil edilen seramikler azımsanmayacak ölçüdedir. Ancak sayıca en yoğun olan buluntu grubu Geç Bizans Kaplarıdır. Makalemizde, Balatlar Kilisesi seramik buluntularının sınıflandırılıp tanıtılması, buluntuların Anadolu içi ve dışındaki farklı yerleşimlerin buluntularıyla karşılaştırılmaları ve değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır.
Many byzantine potteryfindings have been unearthed and attributed to medieval age in the building complex of SinopBalatlar Church, Turkey during the first-five years of the still-continuing excavations. According to the chronological classification ofbyzantine pottery, some of these findings could be dated between the llth and 13th centuries. Besides Glazed White Wares , there have been the other Byzantine Pottery such as Aegean Wares, Slip Painted Wares, FineSgrafitto and Champléve Wares in the findings. There are also some ceramic findings called as Zeuxippus Family Wares. However, the majority of the ceramic findings is classified as Late Byzantine Pottery. The aim of this study is the classification and demonstrations of Balatlar Church findings and the comparison them with the findings of other settlements in the Anatolia and and surrounding regions
