Abstract

Kabul töreni, belirli bir yaşa gelince herhangi bir gruba veya topluma katılması için kişiye uygulanan ritüelleri ifade eder. Uygulanma yöntemleri değişse de bu tören, ilkel veya gelişmiş neredeyse her toplumda görülür. Amaç, bireylerin topluma eğitsel, dinsel veya mitsel anlamda alışmalarını sağlamaktır. Yazısız toplumlarda bu törenler, dinsel içerikle yüklüdür. İlkellerde kabul töreni, genç kız ya da erkeklerin çocukluktan kurtulup kabilenin yetişkin bireyi kabul edildiği ergenlikte gerçekleşir. Bu tür törenlerde gençler bazı zorlu testlere tabii tutulur. Topluma kabulü hak etmek için sınanmak zorunludur. Bazı ilkel kabilelerde kabul töreni, kişinin koruyucu ruhla ilişkiye girmek için birtakım sınanmalardan geçmesi şeklindedir. Bunu başaran genç, kabile tarafından isim alarak üyelik ve aidiyet kazanır. İleri toplumların dinsel geleneğinde kabul törenleri ise sembolik niteliktedir. İlkellerin bedensel acı çekme biçimindeki kabul törenleri, gelişmiş toplumlarda manevi hazır oluş şeklindedir. Hinduların Upanayana, Yahudilerin Bar/Bat Mitzva ve Hristiyanların vaftiz ritüelleri tipik üyeliğe kabul törenlerini ifade eder. Çalışma önemli bir toplumsal ritüel olan kabul töreninin ilkel ve bazı gelişmiş toplumların dinsel geleneğinde nasıl gerçekleştiğini ele almıştır.

Abstract

The initiation ceremony, when an individual reaches a certain age and undergoes rituals to join a specific group or community, is a widespread practice across primitive and advanced societies alike. Although the methods of implementation vary, the purpose remains consistent—to acclimate individuals to the community educationally, religiously, or mythically. In oral societies, these ceremonies are often laden with religious significance. In primitive cultures, the initiation ceremony occurs during adolescence, marking the transition from childhood to adult acceptance within the tribe. During such ceremonies, young individuals are subjected to challenging tests, a necessary ordeal to prove their worthiness for acceptance into the community. In some primitive tribes, the initiation ceremony involves undergoing trials to establish a connection with a protective spirit. Those who succeed in this endeavor receive a name from the tribe, gaining membership and a sense of belonging.
In advanced societies, acceptance ceremonies within religious traditions take on a symbolic nature. Initiation ceremonies in these cultures manifest as a spiritual readiness rather than physical endurance, contrasting with the bodily suffering characteristic of primitive acceptance rituals. Examples include the Hindu Upanayana, Jewish Bar/Bat Mitzvah, and Christian baptism rituals, all representing rites of passage into membership. This work explores how initiation ceremonies unfold in the primitive and certain advanced societies' religious traditions, shedding light on the diverse manifestations of this significant societal ritual.
