The present study aims at evaluating the quality of the work of prospective teachers and examining their perceptions about the study by conducting an oral history application in the “historical evidence, local and oral history in social studies education” course that has recently entered the social studies teaching program. This research was shaped according to the action research design, one of the qualitative research designs. The data of the study were obtained from an application made with 18 social studies teacher candidates studying in the second grade of a state university. The studies of the participants were evaluated with a rubric, and the data were subjected to content analysis and descriptive analysis. The findings of the research suggest that teacher candidates may perform such a study successfully provided that adequate guidance was made available and the expectations from the study were expressed with clear criteria. Findings also showed that oral history was perceived as an enjoyable, exciting, and instructive experience for prospective teachers, although it was a challenging and demanding study. Based on the results of the research, it is recommended to give importance to oral history studies in undergraduate education, to ensure that teachers receive the training that can provide the necessary guidance in such studies, and to increase the number of practical studies on oral history.
