Aim & Scope

Turkish Journal of African Studies (TUJAS) is a peer-reviewed academic journal published by Sakarya University Middle East Institute. Founded in 2023 to meet the need for scientific research on the African continent, TUJAS aims to analyze current and historical issues in North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa.

TUJAS provides an interdisciplinary academic forum for empirical research and innovative critical readings of North and Sub-Saharan Africa developments. Our journal focuses on a wide range of geographies, from the North African region stretching from the Atlantic coast of Morocco to Egypt and Sudan in the south to Sub-Saharan African countries. However, the main focus area will be the geography of "Ottoman Africa." It centers on countries that have direct or indirect relations with the Ottoman Empire and does not exclude countries such as South Africa, which are not included in this geography but have a critical importance in Africa.

TUJAS welcomes scholarly works that analyze the political, economic, and social dynamics and developments of the "Ottoman Africa" region. The articles in our journal are primarily in English and prioritize contributing to the existing literature on African studies. TUJAS prefers research from a multidisciplinary perspective in international relations, politics, sociology, history, geography, theology, philosophy, security, and economics (among others). The journal also includes a book review section on all African topics.
