Studying the Status of Information Technology Use by Science Teachers for Physics Subjects

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze status of information technology use by science teachers for physics subjects and the reasons not to issue it. Case study method was employed to conduct the study. Questionnaire and semi-structured interview methods were also used in the study. The study sample consists of 138 science teachers working in middle schools in Van province. T-test, frequency, percentage, and mean calculations were used to analyze quantitative data. Qualitative data were analyzed via descriptive and content analysis methods. It was seen that when female teachers use technology in the class, they experience more difficulty than male teachers in lecturing the subjects neatly and they need more help to use digital materials in their classes. In addition, science teachers stated that school managements do not provide substantial support for technology use, it takes time to integrate technology to their classes, classes are not suitable for technology use, and in-service trainings are not effective enough. In-service training provided by the institutions can be offered to science teachers in relation to the use of information technologies to improve the relevant knowledge and skills.
