The 5th grade students’ opinions about SSI-based science education (Feskök Pedagogy)

Abstract

We investigated the 5th grade students’ opinions about Feskok pedagogy that is based on socioscientific issues-oriented science education in the present study. We performed one of the Feskok teaching modules to the students in a 5th grade classroom at a middle schoool selected using convenience sampling procedures in Bursa. After this intervention, we conducted semi-structured interviews and asked nine students (three from low-achieving, three from moderate, three from high-achieving groups) that were purposefully selected to evaluate Feskok pedagogy. The results showed that students possessed positive beliefs about Feskok pedagogy. In addition, they used the values stemming from traditional learning practices in their evaluations and therefore suggested multiple choice questions to develop the modules. We concluded that Feskok activities needed to include colourful and digital materials though there were various suggestions from different achievement groups looking in detail.

Beşinci Sınıf Öğrencilerinin Sosyobilimsel Konulara Dayalı Fen Öğretimi (Feskök Pedagojisi) İle İlgili Görüşleri

Abstract

Bu çalışmada sosyobilimsel konulara dayalı fen öğretimini esas alan Feskök pedagojisinin uygulandığı beşinci sınıfların bu pedagoji hakkındaki görüşleri incelenmiştir. Bursa ilinde uygunluk kriterleri ile belirlenmiş bir ortaokulda, bir beşinci sınıfta, Feskök pedagojisini temel alan bir öğretim modülü uygulanmıştır. Bu uygulama sonrasında kasıtlı olarak seçilen düşük, orta ve yüksek başarılı üçer öğrenci ile yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler yapılmış ve öğrencilerin Feskök pedagojisini değerlendirmesi istenmiştir. Çalışma sonuçlarına bakıldığında öğrencilerin büyük bölümünün Feskök pedagojisi ile ilgili pozitif inançlara sahip olduğu gözlenmiştir. Öte yandan öğrencilerin daha çok geleneksel öğrenme temelli değerler üzerinden bu pedagojiyi değerlendirdikleri ve şıklı soruların arttırılması gibi önerilerde bulundukları tespit edilmiştir. Öte yandan farklı başarı gruplarında kriter olarak kullanılan değerlerin farklı olduğu ancak genel anlamda daha renkli ve dijital olarak desteklenmiş faaliyetlere yer verilmesinin uygun olacağı sonucu çıkarılmıştır.
