An Analysis of Pre-Service Science Teachers’ Attitude towards Renewable Energy Sources and Their Awareness towards Environmental Problems

Abstract

This study aims at analysis to determine relation between awareness towards environmental problems of science teacher candidates and their attitude towards renewable energy sources. It was carried out during the school year of 2015-2016 with 371 pre-service science teachers attending a faculty of education in university where is located in the western part of Turkey. The data of the study were collected using two tools: “Environmental Problems Awareness Scale” and “The Scale of Renewable Energy Sources”. The data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics. In addition to descriptive statistics, benefited from pearson moment correlation analysis to determine relation between awareness towards environmental problems of science teacher candidates and their attitude towards renewable energy sources. The findings showed that the participants had a awareness towards environmental problems was positive also their attitude towards renewable energy sources was close to positive level. It was also found that, there is a meaning, positive and moderate relationship between the participants awareness towards environmental problems and their attitude towards renewable energy sources.
