Two Sides of the Coin in The State Administration: Asabiyya and Nepotism In Ibn Khaldun's Muqaddimah

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to comparatively examine the presence of nepotism and universal values in the expressions associated with the concept of Asabiyyah, a concept frequently emphasized by Ibn Khaldun in the Muqaddimah, within the context of state administration. The primary source analyzed in this study is Muqaddimah: An Introduction to Universal History and Social Sciences by Ibn Khaldun, translated into Turkish by Cemal Aydın. Document analysis was employed as the data collection method, while content analysis was used to analyze the data. The findings revealed themes reflecting universal values, including mutual assistance, protection, defence, the pursuit of justice and rights, solidarity among friends and allies, and the prevention of injustice.
