Abstract

This study examines the fundamental intersection between the competence required for professional translators in the context of rapid technological developments and globalization and 21st century skills, including digital literacy, critical thinking, interpersonal communication and creativity. By systematically reviewing existing literature and frameworks on the subject, it reveals how incorporating these contemporary skills into translator training programs can significantly improve professional development and the overall quality of translation work. The analysis highlights the need for translator training to evolve, advocating for curriculum updates aimed at equipping translators for the challenges facing a digital and globalized professional environment. It also highlights the challenges of aligning translator teaching with the demands of 21st century skills and the opportunities to strengthen translator competence through focused development of these skills. The article calls for continued innovation in curriculum design, professional development for instructors, and strengthened collaboration between academic institutions and the translation industry. By offering actionable insights and recommendations, it aims to contribute to ongoing discussions about equipping translators with the versatile skillset required to successfully navigate the complexities of the modern professional environment.

Year 2024, Volume: 6 Issue: 1, 68 - 87, 30.06.2024
https://doi.org/10.55036/ufced.1456831
