Maintaining aircraft maintenance activities safely and effectively is one of the main conditions for effective aviation operations. It is performed by maintenance technicians who are expected to have appropriate competencies in areas such as aprons, hangars and workshops, and in some cases maintenance activities carried out under difficult working conditions. Maintenance technicians should meet the required human factors related skills and behaviours as well as the technical knowledge competencies required to meet the requirements and standards of the tasks. Maintenance technicians and candidate technicians should have cognitive, physical and organizational human factors competencies that will meet the requirements of the profession and should be able to maintain and develop these competencies throughout their tenure. Human factors competencies, which are more difficult and complex to measure and evaluate than technical competencies, also play an important role in maintenance errors. For these reasons, human factors competencies need to be accurately defined, effectively measured and evaluated both in recruitment processes and tenure. In this study, the maintenance technician recruitment postings published by 40 international service maintenance organizations between November 2019 and April 2020 were analysed and evaluated using the content analysis method. The usage factors of human factors competencies are analysed and evaluated by considering the results that may cause human error. In line with the obtained data and analysis results, it was observed that human factors competencies were included at very low rates in job recruitment postings and there was no standard in this regard. In the last part of the study, the deficiencies related to the subject were revealed and solution suggestions were developed.
