Wax and candle are the two basic necessities that have shed light on history for a long time. Wax, which was both a food and commercial merchandise for the Ottoman Empire, was turned into candle in the hands of candle business owners and became an important object of socio-economic life. This study addresses, candle manufacture and candle business owners in charge of manufacture as well as demonstrating food mentality of the Ottomans via these titles. To this end, candle factories (şemhanes), which are candle production venues of the other Ottoman cities, and producers, in other words, candle business owners will be handled. Regarding this matter, it aims to illuminate financial mentality of a civilization, which rose in candle light until the 19th century, even if it is a small contribution.
