Additive effects of the school time practice and the summer time practice on the preparation of Vocational School of Health Services' students for their profession
Abstract
Clinical practice is important to prepare the students of Vocational School of Health Services for their professional life. This descriptive study aimed to evaluate the additive effects of the school time practice and the summer time practice on the preparation of the first year midwifery students for their profession. In 2001, 40 and in 2000, 31 midwifery students were included into the study. To collect the data, a questionnaire form, which was made up of 48 questions that were prepared according to the basic principles and practise on nursing, was used. The number and types of practice during the school time that the student performed or not faced with were not different between two years. But during the summer time practice, they were much more faced with the non–frequent practices. Summer time practice provides an important opportunity for the students to improve their skills. Protocoles between the school and the hospital should be arranged so that health students can face with and perform a plenty of practices.
