Profiles of the patients in the Emergency Internal Medicine Unit: One-year experience

Abstract

The objective of this study was to obtain epidemiologic data about the patients who were admitted to Emergency Internal Medicine Unit, consultations that were made by internal medical clinics, their diagnosis and the ratio of hospitalization. The data of the patients who were admitted to Emergency Internal Medicine Unit of Uludag University Medical Faculty Hospital in a period of 12 months, between June 1, 2002 and May 31, 2003 were obtained from the Emergency Internal Medicine Unit Daily Patient Charts. Major symptoms of the patients, consultations of internal medical clinics, diagnosis and hospitalization ratios were analyzed retrospectively.In 12 months, 21934 patients were admitted to the Emergency Department and 6751 of them (30.7%) referred to Emergency Internal Medicine Unit. They were consulted 8732 times, 4748 of them (70.3%) consulted by only one clinic and 2003 of them consulted by two or more clinics. 2657 patients (39.4%) were hospitalized into different internal medical clinics, 107 patients (%1.6) were hospitalized into different surgery clinics, 506 patients (7.5%) were transferred to other hospitals, 35 patients (0.5%) died in Emergency Department and the other 3446 patients (%51.0) were discharged after their treatment were planned. The patients were consulted most frequently by Internal Medicine (2796), Cardiology (2268) and Neurology (1605) clinics and the most frequent major symptoms were chest pain (898), dyspnea (782) and altered level of consciousness (447), the most frequent diagnoses were various infectious diseases (785), acute coronary syndromes (462), intoxications (417) and emergencies related to oncologic-haematologic malignity (358).

Acil Dahiliye Ünitesi Hasta Profili: 1 Yıllık Deneyim

Abstract

Çalışmanın Amacı Acil Dahiliye Ünitesine (ADÜ) başvuran hastalara yapılan dahili bölüm konsültasyonları, konulan tanılar ve hospitalizasyon oranları hakkında epidemiyolojik bilgiler edinmektir. 1.6.2002 ile 31.5.2003 tarihleri arasındaki 12 aylık sürede Uludağ Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi ADÜ'ne başvuran hastaların verileri ADÜ Günlük Hasta Kayıt Formları incelenerek elde edildi. Hastaların major başvuru semptomları, konsülte eden bölümler, en sık konulan tanılar ve hospitalizasyon oranları retrospektif olarak araştırıldı. 12 aylık sürede acil servise 21934 kişi başvurmuş, bunlardan 6751'i (%30.7) ADÜ'ne devredilmiştir. Bu hastaların 4748'ine (%70.3) sadece bir, 2003'üne (%29.7) ise iki veya daha fazla bölüm tarafından olmak üzere toplam 8732 konsültasyon yapılmıştır. Hastaların 2657'si (%39.4) çeşitli dahili kliniklere yatırılmış, 107'si (%1.6) çeşitli cerrahi kliniklere yatırılmış, 506'sı (%7.5) başka hastanelere sevkedilmiş, 35'i (%0.5) acil serviste eksitus olmuş ve geri kalan 3446 (%51.0) hastanın ise tedavileri düzenlenip taburcu edilmiştir. En çok konsültasyon yapılan bölümler; İç Hastalıkları (n:2796), Kardiyoloji (n:2268) ve Nöroloji (n:1605), en sık majör başvuru semptomları; göğüs ağrısı (n:898), nefes darlığı (n.782) ve bilinç bozuklukları (n:447), en sık konulan tanılar ise; çeşitli enfeksiyonlar (n:785), akut koroner sendrom (n:462), intoksikasyonlar (n:417) ve onkolojik-hematolojik malignite acilleri (n:358) olmuştur.
