Control of the Dosimetric Process at Conventional Head and Neck Radiotherapy with Thermo Luminescence Dosimeter

Abstract

In this study, our purpose is to control dosimetric process of head and neck radiotherapy technique with ThermoLuminescence Dosimeters (TLD). Dosimetric equipment, treatment devices and randofantom were used in the study. At treatment position, cross-sectional areas of randophantom screened with Computerized Tomography-Simulator. Radiotherapy fields identified at virtual simulation. Radiographs from simulation transferred to Computerized Treatment Planning System (CTPS) to control the fields and then point doses calculated. TLDs were placed to determined points at the randophantom then irradiation applied for 5 times to get average values of measurement. Target volume and critical organ doses were evaluated. Difference between the CTPS and measured doses lower than ±%5 was taken in the acceptable limit. The mean of measured doses from 2 points at the target volume were 203,5cGy and mean of calculated CTPS doses were 207cGy. The difference was below %2. Maximum difference of measured and calculated doses at supraclavicular and lateral field junction plane is %3,49. At the lymph node regions, which are within planning treatment volume, the maximum difference was %3,59. In this study, even if results were in the acceptable margin, controlling the CTPS algorithm and treatment period with TLD dosimeters is not ideal, but, useful for all levels.
