Presence of Listeria monocytogenes in Herby Cheese and Determination of Their Susceptibility to Antibiotics

Abstract

This study was carried out to determine
the rate of contamination of Herby cheese with L. monocytogenes in Van market and antibiotic resistance profiles
of L. monocytogenes strains isolated
from samples. In the study; 250 samples of Herby cheese produced in Van
province were investigated. In the isolation of L. monocytogenes, the method
recommended by ISO (International Standard Organization) was used. As a result
of analysis, L. monocytogenes were
isolated from 5 of 250 samples (2%).
In the next step, 5 strains isolated from the field
subspecialty antibiogram were tested. As a result of the antibiotic
susceptibility test; all 5 strains were susceptible to vancomycin,
chloramphenicol and amoxicillin/clavulanic acid but were resistant to
erythromycin. As a result, it was revealed that the Herby cheese offered for
sale in Van could be contaminated with L.
monocytogenes
and antibiotic resistance against erythromycin was determined
in L. monocytogenes serotypes
isolated from cheeses. Therefore, it is concluded that Herby cheese can be a
potential risk in terms of public health especially if consumed fresh or not
fully mature and antibiotic resistance should be taken into consideration in
the treatment of L. monocytogenes
infections.

Otlu Peynirlerde Listeria monocytogenes'in Varlığı ve Antibiyotiklere Duyarlılığının Belirlenmesi

Abstract

Bu araştırma, Van
piyasasında satışa sunulan Otlu peynirlerin L. monocytogenes ile
kontaminasyon oranını ve örneklerden izole edilen L. monocytogenes suşlarının antibiyotik dirençlilik
profillerini belirlemek amacıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmada; Van ilinde
üretilen ve satışa sunulan 250 adet Otlu peynir örneği incelenmiştir.
Örneklerden L. monocytogenes
izolasyonunda ISO (International Standart Organisation) tarafından önerilen
yöntem kullanılmıştır. Analiz sonucunda 250 örneğin 5 tanesinden (%2) L.
monocytogenes
izole edilmiştir. Daha sonra örneklerden izole edilen 5 adet L. monocytogenes suşuna antibiyotik
duyarlılık testi yapılmıştır. Antibiyotik duyarlılık testi sonucunda; 5 suşun
tamamının vankomisin, kloramfenikol ve amoksisilin/klavulanik asite karşı
duyarlı olduğu ancak eritromisine karşı dirençli oldukları belirlenmiştir. Sonuç
olarak, Van ilinde satışa sunulan Otlu peynirlerin L. monocytogenes ile
kontamine olabileceği ortaya konulmuş ve peynirlerden izole edilen L.
monocytogenes
serotiplerinde eritromisin’e karşı antibiyotik direnci olduğu
belirlenmiştir. Bu nedenle Otlu peynirlerin özellikle taze ya da tam
olgunlaşmadan tüketilmesi halinde halk sağlığı açısından potansiyel bir risk
oluşturabileceği ve L. monocytogenes
enfeksiyonlarının tedavisinde antibiyotik dirençliliğine dikkat edilmesi
gerektiği sonucuna varılmıştır.
