Ethical Principles and Publication Policy

The Veri Bilimi Journal is a peer-reviewed academic journal that adheres to the principles of scientific integrity, editorial independence, transparency, and academic honesty. All submissions are expected to comply with national and international standards of research and publication ethics. The journal follows the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and internationally recognized best practices.

General Principles

Manuscripts submitted to the journal must be original, not previously published, and not under consideration elsewhere. Prior dissemination in the form of preprints, thesis abstracts, or conference abstracts must be clearly disclosed at the time of submission.

The journal is committed to maintaining academic integrity, impartial evaluation, confidentiality, and full disclosure of conflicts of interest. Any attempt to interfere with the integrity of the peer review or editorial process is not tolerated.

Authors’ Responsibilities

Authors are collectively responsible for the content of their work. Only individuals who have made substantial contributions should be listed as authors. Gift authorship, honorary authorship, and ghost authorship are unacceptable.

Authors must ensure the accuracy of data, the transparency of methods, and the reproducibility of results. All sources must be properly cited. Plagiarism, self-plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, inappropriate data manipulation, and redundant publication are strictly prohibited.

For studies involving human participants or animals, appropriate ethical approval must be obtained and clearly stated in the manuscript, including the name of the approving body and approval number where applicable. Informed consent and necessary permissions must also be documented when required.

Reviewers’ Responsibilities

Reviewers should accept assignments only within their area of expertise. The review process is confidential, and reviewers must not share or use the manuscript content for personal purposes.

Reviewers must provide objective, constructive, and well-justified evaluations. Personal criticism is inappropriate. Any potential conflict of interest must be disclosed, and reviewers should decline the assignment if such conflicts exist.

Editors’ and Editorial Board Responsibilities

Editors evaluate submissions based solely on scientific merit, scope, originality, and academic quality. Decisions are made independently of authors’ personal characteristics such as gender, institutional affiliation, nationality, or beliefs.

Editors ensure the confidentiality of the review process and avoid handling manuscripts where conflicts of interest may arise. In such cases, the responsibility is delegated to another qualified editor.

The editorial team is responsible for maintaining a fair, unbiased, and timely peer review process. All editorial policies and procedures are clearly stated on the journal’s website.

Conflict of Interest

Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any financial, institutional, or personal relationships that could influence the evaluation or interpretation of a manuscript. All conflicts are handled transparently.

Data, Code, and Reproducibility

The journal supports transparency in data and methodology. Authors are expected to provide sufficient details regarding datasets, analytical methods, and computational procedures to allow reproducibility. If data sharing is restricted due to legal or ethical reasons, this must be clearly stated.

Use of Artificial Intelligence and Generative Tools

Artificial intelligence tools may be used solely for language editing, technical improvement, or auxiliary analysis, and such use must be explicitly disclosed in the manuscript. AI tools cannot be listed as authors. The scientific content, interpretations, conclusions, and ethical responsibility of the work rest entirely with the authors.

Submitted manuscripts may be evaluated during the initial editorial screening using similarity detection and AI-assisted writing analysis tools. Findings obtained from these tools are not used as the sole basis for editorial decisions but are considered as part of the overall evaluation process. Failure to disclose the use of AI tools, or the inclusion of misleading or unverified content, may result in rejection of the manuscript.

Plagiarism, Redundant Publication, and Ethical Violations

All submitted manuscripts are screened using similarity detection tools. In cases of high similarity, improper citation, data duplication, multiple submissions, salami slicing, or other suspected ethical violations, authors may be asked to provide an explanation. If the explanation is deemed insufficient, the manuscript may be rejected or, if already published, retracted.

Similarity scores are not used as a standalone criterion in editorial decisions; the nature, extent, and context of the similarity are carefully evaluated.

Corrections, Retractions, and Expressions of Concern

If significant errors, ethical violations, data inconsistencies, or issues affecting the validity of the results are identified in a published article, the journal may issue a correction, publish an expression of concern, or retract the article. These processes are conducted in accordance with international publishing standards and COPE guidelines.

Human and Animal Research

Studies involving human participants must include ethical approval and informed consent. Animal studies must comply with relevant ethical and legal standards. Manuscripts lacking required approvals may be rejected during the initial screening.

Publication Policy

The Veri Bilimi Journal publishes original research focusing on data-driven approaches in natural sciences and engineering. Manuscripts outside the scope of data science or lacking clear scientific contribution will not be considered.
