Abstract

Yükseköğretim kurumlarında tükenmişliğe odaklanan önceki araştırmalar, öğretim hizmeti sunan öğretim elemanlarının tükenmişliğe duyarlı bir grubu temsil ettiğini açığa çıkarmıştır. Tükenmişlik eğilimi göstermede kişilik yapılarının önemini ortaya koyan çalışmaların sayısında da son zamanlarda bir artış gözlemlenmiştir. Bu anlamda çalışmanın amacı, öğretim elemanlarının kişilik boyutlarının tükenmişliğin üç alt bileşeni (duygusal tükenme, duyarsızlaşma ve azalmış kişisel başarım) üzerindeki farklılaşan etkilerini incelemektir. Çalışmanın örneklemini bir devlet üniversitesinin meslek yüksekokullarında görev yapan 88 öğretim elemanı oluşturmuştur. Bu öğretim elemanları Maslach Tükenmişlik Envanteri’ni, Neo-Beş Faktör Kişilik Envanteri’ni ve Demografik Bilgi Formu’nu doldurmuştur. Yapılan korelasyon analizlerinin sonuçları; dışadönüklük, duygusal istikrarlılık, sorumluluk, geçimlilik ve deneyime açıklık kişilik özelliklerinin tükenmişliğin üç alt bileşenini tecrübe etme üzerinde önemli ölçüde ve farklı şekillerde etkisinin olduğunu göstermiştir. Bu sonuçlar yükseköğretim ortamı ve kişilik özellikleri arasındaki etkileşim bakış açısından tartışılmıştır

THE EFFECT OF FIVE FACTOR PERSONALITY TRAITS ON THE BURNOUT OF INSTRUCTORS: SÜLEYMAN DEMİREL UNIVERSITY VOCATIONAL SCHOOLS’ SAMPLE

Abstract

Previous researches focused on burnout in the context of higher education institutions have shown that instructors work in it represent a group of sensitive to burnout. Recently in the number of papers that bring up the importance of personality structure in the disposition to burnout tendency has increased. In this sense, the objective of this study was to examine the dimensions of instructors’ personality have differential effects on the 3 subcomponents of burnout (emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and diminished personal accomplishment). The population of the study consisted of 88 instructors in a vocational schools of a state university. These instructors completed the Maslach Burnout Inventory, Neo-Five Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI) and Demographic Information Form. The results of the corelation analyses showed that extraversion, emotional stability, conscientiousness, agreeableness and openess to experience personality dimensions do significantly and differentially impact the experience of the sub-components of burnout. These results are discussed from the view of interaction between disposition variables and teaching environment
