Abstract

Bibliometric Analysis of Peer Effect Studies in Social Sciences

Year 2025, Volume: 16 Issue: 48, 1261 - 1275, 30.11.2025
https://doi.org/10.21076/vizyoner.1654020

Abstract

Academic interest in peer effect, which has been studied and discussed in many fields, has increased significantly since the early 2000s. Therefore, the study aims to provide a holistic and current perspective on peer effect. Between 1999 and 2025, social science-related data on peer effect from the Web of Science database is subjected to a bibliometric analysis using Vosviewer and Biblioshiny in the Bibliometrix R package. Peer effect research has an annual increase of 11.99%. On average, there are 6.82 studies and 28.46 citations per year. While the number of studies in the field has increased cumulatively, the number of citations has fluctuated, but the general trend is increasing. The USA is the most important country of origin for researchers in the field. The study guides future studies by analyzing the journals, authors and influential factors in the peer effect literature in the social sciences. Thematic maps derived from keyword analysis highlight areas that deserve further research, such as motivation and renewable energy.

Ethical Statement

The study does not necessitate an approval of ethical committee.
