Yükseköğretimde Çağdaş Yaklaşımlar, Yapısal Değişiklikler: Diş Hekimliği Eğitimi Örneği

Year 2011, Volume: 1 Issue: 1, 8 - 16, 01.06.2011

Abstract

Contemporary approaches, structural changes in higher education: an example of dental education

Year 2011, Volume: 1 Issue: 1, 8 - 16, 01.06.2011

Abstract

In the contemporary countries, higher education is supported and developed as much as possible to produce graduates meeting the requirements of society. The aims of teaching and learning are determined by these requirements. In the last few decades increasing numbers of higher education teachers and researchers in the world, have been concentrating on how to improve the quality of teaching and learning. These studies have resulted in the formulation of a number of teaching and learning theories, strategies and approaches. These contemporary approaches in higher education and the developments especially in the last decade in the world and in Turkey were reviewed in this article. It was also aimed to summarize how the dental education changed in the world and how it was reflected to the dental faculties in our country. In conclusion, we can say the educational methodologies in higher education are rapidly changing, teacher-centered educational methods have been superceded by student-centered education. Turkish universities should also be adapted to these innovations.
