Abstract

Forensic science is a collection of professions that use their powers to assist in conducting crime investigations. Higher education is a subject of formal education in the official part of education. Forensic science education is a very ideal and result-oriented education program for students who are interested in this field to gain a theoretical basis in the related fields and to have a profession in the future. In this study, forensic science undergraduate and graduate degree programs worldwide and in Türkiye were compared qualitatively and quantitatively, and their similarities and differences were demonstrated. Some of the countries and universities with forensic science education programs were selected, their curricula were examined, data was collected and analysed. For this purpose, selection was made among the universities among the top hundred universities based on the 'research performance' criterion in their continents when searched with the keywords 'Forensic Sciences' on the website Edurank.org. Under the main title of quantitative characteristics, the number of the departments in universities according to the status of education in undergraduate, graduate or both, which faculties these departments belong to, and in the third stage, the numerical distribution of courses in undergraduate and graduate programs were examined. Under the main title of qualitative features there is the subtitle of how undergraduate and graduate course contents are processed. Whether the teaching is theoretical or practical and by which methods the courses are taught were examined. The published bibliographies have been scanned, and the curricula of universities in countries with undergraduate and graduate programs were compared with those in our country. Education in this field were analysed comparatively, and similarities and/or differences were determined and listed.

Türkiye’de ve Dünyada Adli Bilimler Eğitiminin Karşılaştırmalı İncelenmesi

Year 2024, Volume: 14 Issue: 3, 147 - 160, 31.12.2024
