Blind Refereeing and Evaluation Process


Blind peer-review is a method applied to publish scientific publications with the highest quality. This method forms the basis of the objective evaluation process of scientific studies and is preferred by many scientific journals. The opinions of the referees have a decisive place in the publication quality of Van Yüzüncü Yıl University Journal of Education. Van Yüzüncü Yıl University Journal of Education uses the double-blind method in the evaluation process of all studies. In the double-blind method, the identities of the authors and referees of the studies are hidden.
Van Yüzüncü Yıl University Journal of Education journal carries out a double-blind evaluation process for candidate articles. All submitted articles must be original. The applicant article should not have an ongoing evaluation process in another journal. In addition, after the application is made, it should not be applied to another journal for evaluation. In case of detection of such applications, no further application of the relevant author will be accepted to the journal.
The studies coming to the Dergipark system are pre-evaluated by the Editors within 2 weeks at the latest. Evaluation criteria; Compliance with the scope and subject areas of the journal, Evaluation of similarity rate, Compliance with the journal's spelling rules (APA 7 Rules), compliance with the article template, legal and ethical compliance.
Articles that are found not to meet any of these conditions or whose application documents are missing are directly rejected by the decision of the Preliminary Examining Board. In addition, articles that are out of scope, that is, articles that are considered unsuitable for the name, field, memory and readership of the journal are returned even if they are complete and very successful. For such articles, which are very numerous, justifications for rejection are not created with long explanations one by one. International scientific journals do not have a feedback obligation.
For articles that are found to have minor deficiencies that do not require a return, resubmission is requested through the DergiPark system. Follow-up of the process is the responsibility of the author. Van Yüzüncü Yıl University Journal of Education is based on the DergiPark system in communicating with authors and referees. The journal does not have the opportunity or obligation to communicate with the authors through different channels in the current workload.
Studies that have passed the preliminary evaluation stage mentioned above by the editors are sent to the field editor according to the nature of the study. The field editor makes a preliminary evaluation of the candidate article within two weeks and reaches a decision as to whether the work is suitable for sending to the referees. The studies found suitable are forwarded to 2 expert referees.
After the study is sent to the referee, the referee indicates to the editorial board within 2 weeks at the latest whether it can be evaluated or not. The referees who do not specify are removed from the study and a new referee is appointed. Evaluates the work on the standard Evaluation form for the referees according to the nature of the work. In addition, if the referees wish, they can submit the notes stating their suggestions and opinions on the full text to the editorial board. The period for referee evaluations is 4 weeks. In case of an acceptance or rejection in the decisions, the opinion of the third arbitrator is applied. The refereeing process is carried out until two positive or two negative reports are received about the article. Invitations are sent to a maximum of twelve referees for an article. If no results can be obtained from the referees in this process, the article is returned. Referee reports are confidential and kept for five years. The referees have to give a guarantee that they will not share any process and document about the studies they evaluate. After the referee's opinions regarding the study are sent to the field editor, the field editor must convey his decision to the editor within two weeks.
The editors who receive the studies in line with the opinions of the referees forward their suggestions to the editor. The editor makes the final decision in line with the opinions of the referees and the suggestion decision of the field editor. The final decision always rests with the Editors.
For the study, the referees can express their opinions in 4 ways:
Major changes are required to the manuscript (Major Revision).
Few corrections are required in the manuscript (Minor Revision).
The article is not suitable for publication (Rejection).
The article can be published as it is (Accepted).
It is anticipated that the publication evaluation process of the studies sent to Van Yüzüncü Yıl University Journal of Education will be finalized within approximately 6 months. However, the period between the date when the referee or editors requested corrections from the author(s) and the date when the author(s) completed the corrections is not included in this 6-month period.
