Case of conjoined twin's cephalothoracopagus janiceps disymmetros

Abstract

We report the prenatal imaging findings of a rare case of male cephalothoracopagus janiceps disymmetros diagnosed at 15 weeks' gestation by 2D ultrasound. Cephalothoracopagus janiceps refers to twins with two identical faces, on opposite sides of the large conjoined head, the two faces are identical and symmetrical, this is called cephalothoracopagus janiceps disymmetros The early diagnosis of conjoined twinning with a high probability of mortality is very important and allows the termination of the pregnancybefore 18- 24 weeks. So the mother can be protected from a major surgical procedure.

Abstract

Çalışmamızda 15. haftada iki boyutlu ultrasonografı ile tanı konulmuş oldukça nadir görülen bir birleşik fetus vakası sunulmuştur. Bu olgu sunumunda zıt yönlere bakan belirgin ve simetrik iki yüzü olan, cinsiyeti erkek olan sefalotorakofagus olarak adlandırılan birleşik fetus vakasının öyküsü ve klinik özellikleri anlatılmıştır. Bu gibi yaşama şansı olmayan anomalili fetusların erken gebelik haftalarında tanınması hasta yakınlarına terminasyon seçeneğinin erken haftalarda sunulmasını sağlayarak anneleri gereksiz operasyonlardan koruyacaktır.
