MIB-1 expression in cellular leiomyomas and leiomyosarcomas

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate MIB-1 expression in cellular leiomyomas and leiomyos arcomas. Materials and Methods:The study includes 17 patients with cellular leiomyomas and 7 patients with leiomyosarcoma diagnosed between 1997 and 2003 at the Pathology Laboratory of Zeynep Kamil Hospital. Tumor representative one paraffin embedded tissue from each case was evaluated immunohistochemicaUy for MIB-1. Results :While all 7 cases of leiomyosarcoma revealed 15% and more MIB-1 expression there was no MIB-1 expression of?% 15 in any of cellular leiomyomas. There was less than 5% and weak expression in one case of cellular leiomyoma. Conclusion: MIB-1 expression could be used in contradictory cases as an ancillary method along with conventional diagnostic parameters.

Selüler leiomyom ve leiomyosarkomlarda MIB-1 ekspresyonu

Abstract

Amaç: Selüler leiomyom ve leimyvsarkomların MIB-1 ekspresyonlarını değerlendirmek. Materyal ve Method: 1997-2003 yıllan arasında Zeynep Kamil Hastanesi Patoloji Bölümünde tanı almış 17 selüler leiomyom ve 7 leiomyo sarkom olgusu çalışma kapsamına alındı. Tümörleri temsil eden birer parafin blokda immıınhis to kimyasal yöntemle MIB-1 boyanması incelendi. Bulgular: Yedi adet leiomyosarkom olgusunun tümünde % 15 ve üzerinde MIB-1 ekspresyonu saptanırken, 17 adet sekiler leiomyom olgusunun hiçbirinde bu oranın üzerinde ekspresyon izlenmedi. Bir adet sekiler leiomyom olgusunda % 5 den az ve zayıf MIB-1 ekspresyonu kaydedildi. Sonuç: Çelişkili olgularda selüler leiomyomları, leiomyosarkomdam ayırmak için, MIB-1 ekspresyonunu bilinen parametrelere yardımcı bir yöntem olarak kullanabiliriz.
