ÜNİVERSİTE KÜTÜPHANELERİNDEKİ AÇIK BİLİM UYGULAMALARININ SÜRDÜRÜLEBİLİR KALKINMA HEDEFLERİNİN SAĞLANMASINDAKİ ROLÜ: İSTANBUL'DAKİ ÜNİVERSİTE KÜTÜPHANELERİ ÜZERİNE KEŞİFSEL BİR ÇALIŞMA

Öz

Bu çalışma, üniversite kütüphanelerinde yürütülen Açık Bilim (AB) uygulamalarının Sürdürülebilir Kalkınma Hedeflerine (SKH) katkısını incelemektedir. 2015 yılında Birleşmiş Milletler tarafından belirlenen SKH, yoksulluğun ortadan kaldırılması, nitelikli eğitim, eşitsizliklerin azaltılması ve iklim eylemi gibi alanlarda küresel kalkınmayı hedeflemektedir. Bilgi merkezleri, doğru ve erişilebilir bilgi sağlayarak karar alma süreçlerini desteklerken; üniversite kütüphaneleri, araştırma, eğitim ve toplumsal farkındalık yoluyla SKH'nin gerçekleşmesine önemli katkılar sunmaktadır. İstanbul’daki 42 üniversite kütüphanesinden elde edilen nicel veriler kullanılarak, Açık Bilim farkındalığı, uygulama düzeyi ve karşılaşılan engeller analiz edilmiştir. Bulgular, kütüphanelerin sürdürülebilir kalkınmayı desteklemede giderek daha önemli bir rol üstlendiğini göstermektedir. Çalışma sonucunda, Açık Bilim’in etkin uygulanması için kurumsal politikaların güçlendirilmesi, profesyonel gelişimin desteklenmesi ve altyapının iyileştirilmesi önerilmektedir.

OPEN SCIENCE PRACTICES IN UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES AND THEIR ROLE IN ACCELERATING THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS: AN EXPLORATORY STUDY ON ISTANBUL UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES

Öz

The study examines how Open Science (OS) practices implemented in university libraries contribute to the achievement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Established in 2015, the SDGs address global priorities such as poverty eradication, quality education, reduced inequalities, and climate action. University libraries, as crucial information institutions, play an active role in advancing these goals by promoting open access, open data, and public engagement in research. Drawing on quantitative data collected from 42 university libraries across Istanbul, this research assesses librarians’ awareness of Open Science, the level of institutional implementation, and perceived barriers. Findings highlight the emerging role of libraries in fostering sustainable development through transparent, collaborative, and inclusive information practices. The study concludes with recommendations emphasizing the need to strengthen institutional policies, enhance professional competencies, and improve research infrastructure to achieve effective integration of Open Science with the SDGs.
