Katılımcıların %43,8’i ≤30, %41’i ise 31-40 yaşlarındadır, %65,4’sını hekimler oluşturmaktadır.

OBJECTIVE: This study, conducted in Başkent University Ankara Hospital, aimed to examine employees’ violence exposure, and their opinions and attitudes on violence. METHODS: The study was performed in January – February in 2015; 179 Health Care Professionals working in Başkent University Ankara Hospital and who accepted to participate in survey were included. The study data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0 statistical package program. RESULTS: Even though Başkent University Ankara Hospital employs 1655 health care professionals, the study was conducted on 179 10.8% who accepted to take the survey. 74.3% of the subjects were females and 25.7% were male. 43.8% of the participants were below the age of 30; 41.0% were at age 31-40. 65.4% of the professionals are MDs. Health care professionals believed that violence in last year has increased both in overall the society 97.7% and in health sector 91.5% ; and they reported that violence was used mostly by males 73.30% . Practitioners reports that violence was increased because of the media publications 60.9% , and the idea of patients being ignored 59.2% and kept waiting 58.7% . During their career, 60.9% of the participants have witnessed violence, 29.1% of them have been exposed to violence. Both witnesses and victims state that mostly verbal violence is used 89.7%; 80.0% ; violence was performed by relatives of patients 86.2%; 74.3% ; and is seen as a means of obtaining rights 78.2%; 80.0% . Violence is frequently witnessed in the halls 41.4% while exposure happens in the clinics 25.7% . Data show that 50.6% of the witnesses and 42.9% of the victims have not submitted an official complaint. CONCLUSION: The findings shows that participants think that violence is increasing in overall the society and health sector, however; they do not enough information about the steps forward against violence. We conceive that “in-service training” on this topic is a necessity.
