The super polymorphic HLA system has come to assume much significance in forensic practice. The inherent intricacies associated with this system call for a meaningful and constant collaboration between an entrant forensic laboratory and couple of established HLA Typing Laboratories whose (the latter's) main aim may be to serve clinical purposes. Such a scientific rapport results in intensive training, on-the-job exposure, attendance at workshopsjconferences etc. and assistance in serum screening; the beneficiary forensic laboratory may incidentally take on itself the obligation of sharing the experience with its sister institutions by way of popularising the field, disseminating the data on sources for reagents/ methodology/other technical aspects. Through this, we share our three years' long experience -the first Indian forensic HLA exercise- with other colleagues in order to make this system more familiar. We also present the results on some of our forensic experiments.
