Daha yaygın olarak yoğun bakım ünitelerinde görülen hastane infeksiyonları ölüm ve sakatlık
riskini yükseltmesi ayrıca ekonomik zorlukları da beraberinde getirmesi nedenleri ile önemli ve
güncel bir konudur. Yoğun bakım ünitelerinde en sık rastlanan patojen Staphylococcus aureustur.
Metisiline dirençli Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)1961’de ilk kez tanımlandığından beri
hastaneden edinilmiş infeksiyonun en yaygın sebebi olarak bilinir. Hastaneden edinilmiş MRSA’nın
bir hastadan diğerine ana yayılımı sıklıkla hastane personelinin el teması yoludur. Literatürdeki
genel kanı ölümün daha çok metisiline dirençli Staphylococcus aureus bakteriyemisinden
kaynaklandığı yönündedir. Bununla birlikte nazokomial Staphylococus aureus infeksiyonu olan bir
hasta öldüğünde akıllara ‘‘bu bir infeksiyon ölümü müdür, yoksa altta yatan hastalığın gelişen
komplikasyonu mudur’’ sorusu takılır.
Bu çalışmadaki amacımız bu tür durumlarda ölüm nedeninin ayrımının yapılmasının adli yönden
önemine adli tıp uzmanlarının dikkatini çekmektir
