Malignant Tumor of the Maxillary Sinus

Yıl 2017, Cilt: 8 Sayı: 1, 1563 - 1568, 01.06.2017

Öz

Malignant tumors of the paranasal sinuses comprise of less than 1% of all malignancies and most of them originate from maxillary sinus. Lesion is often asymptomatic before it becomes extensive out of the sinus, however, the signs and symptoms of inflammatory sinusitis may be present. In early periods, there are no specific radiographic findings. Radiopacity of soft tissue mass in the sinus may appear. In advanced periods, the destruction of sinus walls and irregular radiolucent areas in the adjacent bone may be seen. Conditions that may cause radiopacity of the sinus, such as sinusitis and odontogenic cysts, should be considered in the differential diagnosis. Prognosis is generally poor due to its poor diagnosis in early periods and the complex anatomy of the region. In this case, the malignant tumor of the maxillary sinus in a patient who was referred to the dentist with the complaint of facial swelling and pain, is presented
