Radiographic Evaluation of the Multiple Lingual Foramen and Bony Canals

Öz

Lingual foramen, which is localized in the midline of the internal surface of the mandible in the region between the mental foramen is seen as one in the vast majority of the population, but could be more than one in some cases. This foramen is named as superior lingual foramen when it is located on the genial spine, and as inferior lingual foramen when located below the genial spine. Identification of these anatomical structures is important for prevention of complications before surgical operation in the mandibular anterior region. In this case report the radiographic features of two superior lingual foramens and one inferior lingual foramen and their bony canals, which was identified in a patient on cone-beam computed tomography images taken for implant planning is presented

Multiple Lingual Foramen ve Kanallarının Radyografik Olarak Değerlendirilmesi

Öz

Mandibulada iç tarafta mental foramenler arası bölgede orta hatta lokalize olan lingual foramen popülasyonun büyük çoğunluğunda bir adet olmakla birlikte, bazı vakalarda birden fazla görülebilmektedir. Bu foramen genial tüberkülün üstünde ise süperior lingual foramen, altında ise inferior lingual foramen olarak adlandırılır. Mandibular anterior bölgeye yapılacak olan cerrahi işlemler öncesinde bu anatomik oluşumların yerlerinin tespit edilmesi komplikasyonların önlenmesinde önemlidir. Bu olgu bildiriminda implant planlaması amacıyla konik ışınlı bilgisayarlı tomografi alınan bir hastada tespit edilen iki adet süperior lingual foramen ve bir adet inferior lingual foramen ve kanallarının radyografik özellikleri sunulmuştur
