Mechanical Plaque Control Techniques

Öz

The most important attempt to provide and maintain personal oral hygiene is to remove dental plaque which has the main role in the etiology of periodontal disease and caries. Dental plaque can be removed by mechanically or chemically. Mechanical plaque removal includes self-care activities and professional hygiene procedures. Toothbrushing and interdental cleaning are the common self-care methods for mechanical plaque control. The purpose of this review is to summarize the factors that change the plaque removal efficacy of toothbrushing and the aids which are performed to provide interdental cleaning

Öz

Ağız ve diş sağlığının sağlanması ve devam ettirilebilmesi için periodontal hastalığın ve çürüğün ana sebebi olan dental plağın uzaklaştırılması en temel yaklaşımdır. Dental plağı uzaklaştırma yöntemleri mekanik ve kimyasal olarak ikiye ayrılırken; mekanik plak kontrol yöntemleri de bireysel ve profesyonel diş temizliği olmak üzere iki yönden değerlendirilmelidir. Mekanik plak kontrolü için kullanılan en yaygın bireysel uygulamalar diş fırçalama ve ara yüz temizliğidir. Bu derlemede, diş fırçalamada plak uzaklaştırma etkinliğini değiştiren faktörler ve ara yüz temizliğinde kullanılan araçlar tanımlanmaktadır
