Dentine hypersensitivity, which is come across common in society, is described as transient, sharp, localized pain caused by several exogenous stimuli. The pain response shows difference from one person to another. Dentine hypersensitivity should be discerned from conditions causing dental sensitivity such as tooth bleaching and other tooth pathologies. The most widely accepted theory of pain occurs is the Brännström’s hydrodynamic theory which is fluid movement within the dentinal tubules. Treatment of hypersensitivity includes three treatment strategies which may be called physical and chemical in nature. First method consists of covering the dentinal tubules with gingival grafts, dental restorations or laser. Second is plugging by using compounds that can precipitate together into a large enough mass to occlude the tubules. Third is desentisizing the nerve tissue within the tubules using potassium nitrate. Dentine hypersensitivity choosen for treatment should be effective long term. This review addresses the prevalence, diagnosis, and treatment of dentinal hypersensitivity in recent term
