Maxillofacial prostheses are widely usedfor the restoration of missing or defectivefacial tissues resulting from cancer surgery, accident or congenital deformities in recentyears. Earliest forms of facial prostheseswere constructed of wood, ivory, waxesand metals. Modern materials for externalprostheses include vinyl plastisols, poly methyl methacrylate , polyurethanes, latex and silicone polymers. Silicone elastomers were first used for maxillofacialprostheses by Barnhart in 1960 and sincethen have became the materials of choicebecause of their chemical inertness, strength, durability, and ease of manuplation
