The majority of the swellings which areseen in oral and maxillofacial region aremaxillary and mandibular odontogenicinfections. Odontogenic infections whichusually take place in oral cavity, maxillaryand mandibular bone and head and neckarea, spread because of the nonsteril conditions of the oral cavity. Knowledge of theanatomy of head and neck region is essential because of their crucial functions. Thecorrect surgical approaches and medicaltreatments to infections spread to thisregion are vital.
