General Introduction to Landscape Ecology

Environmental pressures, which are caused by both industrial developments and population rise, increasingly
compel researchers to find solutions to environmental problems worldwide. The solution of such complex
problems generated by reciprocal relationships and impacts requires interdisciplinary collaboration. Wide
dissemination of the basic concepts and terminology of the landscape ecology paradigm, whose application is at
the beginning stages in our country, is important to develop a common language among the researchers in
environment related studies. In this context, the article presents basic concepts and theories pertaining to
landscape ecology, displays the use of landscape structure indices, and evaluates the inevitable consequences of
urbanization from a landscape ecological perspective
