Each individual is born biologically as a ‘male’ or a ‘female’ and, depending on this feature, acquires his/her social roles by taking his/her place as a ‘male’ or a ‘female’ within the social structure. Although these two dimensions are different from each other, they are either considered by many people as being the same with each other or the second one (gender) is evaluated as the natural and necessary outcome of the first one (sex). Thus, the victimization of women in social relations gains meaning as a result of this situation. The news on some media organs which reflect the perception of women is one of the typical examples of this issue. In this research, the biological and social dimensions of the ‘sex’/‘gender’ distinction are firstly examined by searching the literature. Following the literature review, the examples of the confusion over this distinction that can turn women into a consumption object are tried to be revealed through some selected news media.
