Examination of Family Relations in the Novel Cevdet Bey and His Sons in the Light of Bert Hellinger's Family Constellation Approach

Öz

Cevdet Bey and His Sons (1982), Orhan Pamuk's first novel, is a novel of the sociocultural and psychological transformation of a family over three generations. The novel, which dates from 1905 to the 1970s, deals with the daily lives of individuals, their internal conflicts, and the impact of political and socio-cultural conditions on their psychology. However, the novel deals not only with the circumstances of individuals but also their connections with each other and the background interactions of a family. In these aspects, the novel is a novel that deals with the multi-layered network of relationships of a family across generations. In this context, the relationships presented by the novel make it possible to examine the novel with Bert Hellinger's family constellation theory.
This study examines Orhan Pamuk's novel Cevdet Bey and His Sons in the light of Bert Hellinger's Family Constellations theory. Hellinger's theory based on systemic family therapy; It analyzes the invisible ties of a family within the framework of principles such as belonging, hierarchy, balance and repetitions of fate. Hellinger's approach suggests that individuals are under the influence of not only their own life experiences but also the collective memory of the family system to which they belong. It is claimed that especially people and secrets who are excluded or ignored within the system can be "represented" unconsciously in subsequent generations. The novel Cevdet Bey and His Sons focuses on the systemic roles, feelings and bonds of the characters Cevdet, Osman, Refik and Ahmet within the family. For this reason, a structural relationship has been established between the novel's characters and their relationships with Hellinger's theoretical structure. In this context, the characters of the novel will be analyzed together with the concepts in Hellinger's family constellation theory.

Cevdet Bey ve Oğulları Romanındaki Aile İlişkilerinin Bert Hellinger'in Aile Dizimi Yaklaşımıyla İncelenmesi

Öz

Orhan Pamuk’un ilk romanı olan Cevdet Bey ve Oğulları (1982), bir ailenin üç kuşak boyunca geçirdiği sosyokültürel ve psikolojik dönüşümün romanıdır. 1905’ten 1970’lere kadar uzanan roman, bireylerin gündelik hayatlarını, içsel çatışmalarını, politik ve sosyo-kültürel koşulların psikolojilerine olan etkisini işler. Ancak roman sadece bireylerin koşullarını değil birbirleriyle olan bağlarını ve bir ailenin arka plandaki etkileşimlerini de ele alır. Bu yönleriyle roman bir ailenin çok katmanlı ilişkiler ağını kuşaklar boyunca ele alan bir romandır. Bu bağlamda romanın sunduğu ilişkiler, romanın Bert Hellinger'in aile dizimi yaklaşımı ile incelenmesini mümkün kılmaktadır. Bu çalışmada Orhan Pamuk’un Cevdet Bey ve Oğulları adlı romanı, Bert Hellinger’in “aile dizimi” (family constellations) yaklaşımı ışığında incelenmektedir. Hellinger’in sistemik aile terapisine dayanan teorisi; aidiyet, hiyerarşi, denge ve kader tekrarları gibi ilkeler çerçevesinde bir ailenin görünmeyen bağlarını analiz eder. Hellinger’in yaklaşımı, bireylerin yalnızca kendi yaşam deneyimlerinin değil, aynı zamanda ait oldukları aile sisteminin kolektif hafızasının da etkisi altında olduklarını öne sürer. Özellikle sistem içinde dışlanan ya da görmezden gelinen kişiler ile sırların, sonraki kuşaklarda bilinç dışı bir biçimde “temsil” edilebileceği iddia edilir. Cevdet Bey ve Oğulları romanı, Cevdet, Osman, Refik ve Ahmet adlı karakterlerin aile içindeki sistemik rollerine, duygularına ve bağlarına odaklanmıştır. Bu nedenle romanın karakterleri ve karakterler arası ilişkileriyle Hellinger’in kuramsal yapısı arasında yapısal bir ilişki kurulmuştur. Bu bağlamda romanın karakterleri, Hellinger’in aile dizimi yaklaşımındaki kavramlarla birlikte analiz edilecektir.
