Determining the Relationship Between Emergency Nurses' Competencies in Disaster Management and Disaster Response Self-Efficacy

During natural disasters and social catastrophes, the rapid and effective response of healthcare personnel is vital for the survival and preservation of the health of injured individuals. The aim of the study is to determine the relationship between emergency nurses' competencies in disaster management and their disaster response self-efficacy. This cross-sectional descriptive-correlational study included 255 emergency nurses in Türkiye. Data were collected online via snowball sampling using a nurse information form, the Disaster Nursing Management Competency Scale, and the Disaster Intervention Self-Efficacy Scale. Data were analyzed using SPSS 27.0 with descriptive statistics, t test, Pearson correlation, one-way ANOVA, and Bonferroni test, with the significance level set at p<0.05. In the study, it was seen that the average age of the nurses was 31.20±8.16 and 71.4% were female. It was found that nurses' disaster response self-efficacy was high (71.30±15.69) and their competence in disaster nursing management was at a moderate level (7.89±1.57). A positive, moderately significant relationship was found between emergency nurses' disaster response self-efficacy and disaster management competencies (r=0.346, p<0.001). To enhance nurses’ competence in disaster management, it is recommended to organize drills, implement simulation-based training, increase community participation activities, and conduct further research.

Acil Hemşirelerinin Afet Yönetiminde Yetkinlikleri ile Afete Müdahale Özyeterlilikleri Arasındaki İlişkinin Belirlenmesi

Öz

Doğal afet ve toplumsal felaket anlarında sağlık personelinin hızlı ve etkili müdahalesi, yaralı bireylerin hayatta kalması ve sağlık durumlarının korunması açısından hayati önem taşımaktadır. Araştırmanın amacı acil hemşirelerinin afet yönetiminde yetkinlikleri ile afete müdahale özyeterlilikleri arasındaki ilişkinin belirlenmesidir. Araştırma, kesitsel tasarıma sahip tanımlayıcı ve ilişki arayıcı niteliktedir. Araştırma Türkiye genelinde acil serviste çalışan 255 hemşire ile yapılmıştır. Veriler hemşire bilgi formu, Afet Hemşireliği Yönetiminde Yetkinlikler Ölçeği ve Afete Müdahale Özyeterlilik Ölçeği kullanılarak çevrim içi anket yoluyla kartopu yöntemi ile toplanmıştır. Veriler SPSS 27.0 programında, betimleyici istatistiksel yöntemler, t testi, Pearson korelasyon analizi, Tek yönlü ANOVA ve Bonferroni çoklu karşılaştırma testi kullanılarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Önem düzeyi p<0,05 olarak kabul edilmiştir. Araştırmada hemşirelerin yaş ortalamalarının 31,20±8,16 ve %71,4’nün kadın olduğu görülmüştür. Hemşirelerin afete müdahale özyeterliliklerinin yüksek (71,30±15,69), afet hemşireliği yönetiminde yetkinliklerinin orta düzeyde (7,89±1,57) olduğu bulunmuştur. Acil hemşirelerinin afete müdahale özyeterliliği ile afet yönetimi yetkinlikleri arasında pozitif yönde orta düzeyde istatistiksel olarak anlamlı derecede bir ilişki saptanmıştır (r= 0,346, p<0,001). Hemşirelerin afet yönetimi konusunda yetkinliğinin artırılması için tatbikatların düzenlenmesi, simülasyon temelli eğitimlerin planlanması, toplum katılımı ile yapılan etkinliklerin artırılması ve bu konuda araştırmaların yapılması önerilmektedir.
